For most of you the primary purpose of a web site is to sell products or services. A web site should be one of your strongest marketing tools. With this in mind, the written copy for your web site needs to sell your product or services. No matter how big or small your project: from simple one, two or three page web brochures to on-line stores, to a many pages, many pictures site, the end result will be effective and easy to use.

This initial free consultation includes the first steps of what is called Information Architecture. With it we'll figure out how the information on your web site will be organized and presented. With this information we can maximize your web site's usefulness.

For simple web sites, all of the necessary Information Architecture can be gathered during the first consultation. For more complicated sites additional information is usually required.

An important aspect of a web site is the use of keywords. Keywords help Search Engines find and rank your web site. This how you gain exposure to your target market. So for example, if your business is primarily generated locally, then the name(s) of local towns or cities should be among your effective keywords used. Gathering these keywords is part of the initial consultation.

We'll create a basic outline or skeleton of your web site.

For small sites, this is a quick process. A typical small web site might have pages entitled: Home • Services • Location • About Us • and Contact Us.

For more complicated sites a back-and-forth process is required so we can decide on the purpose of each page, what they'll be called, and where they will be placed.

The visual design of your web site should serve a number of basic purposes:
  • Reinforce your message. Visitors to your site should be able to quickly tell what your company offers.
  • Focus the viewer's attention. Again, this should establish in your potential customer's mind what your company is about and what you can do for them.
  • Make it look good. We will make suggestions to improve the design and make it attractive to your targeted customers.

We'll do a basic, non-functioning, Home Page design incorporating current logo(s), company colors and/or photographs.

After you give your approval on the look and outline we'll begin with web construction.

One of the ways customers are going to find your web site is through internet searches. Despite what others may tell you, web site "Search Engine Optimization" is relatively a easy, but technical process. Please note that even after the web site has been well crafted to maximize internet searches a "high ranking" does take time to achieve.

We place keywords relative to your business:
  • In the "Title" on each page of your web site.
  • In the "Meta Tags" on each page.
  • In the text on each page.
  • In the "Intra-Web Site" links connecting each page.
With "keywords" some people go overboard. This can result in ridiculously long web page "Titles." The "Title" is what you see at the top of the web browser and when you bookmark the site. In addition too many words are often included in the "Meta Tags." "Meta Tags" are hidden to the viewer and, in the past, were the primary way "Search Engine Spiders" ranked web sites. Many words in these places aren't necessary. In fact they can be detrimental, you just need the keywords.

Adding keywords to all of the appropriate places does take some time in the web construction, but it is an essential part of the process. Choosing keywords is usually discussed during our initial free consultation.

One of the most important aspects of Search Engine Optimization, and unfortunately one of the hardest things to accomplish, is getting lots of other web sites to link to your web site. These are usually gathered over time and we can show you how to add them yourself, if you are technically inclined, or this process can be part of your web site maintenance.

Another way customers are going to find your web site is to tell them about it. This means you should put you web address on everything you print, business cards, brochures, ads, checks, promotional gifts, etc. Add your web address with each email you send by making an email business card that is automatically attached to each email. You should also include your web address on your voice mail and company answering machine.
