Nick Henderson Kittitas County Commissioner District #2

I am Nick Henderson and I was running for Kittitas County Commissioner District #2, GOP.

I would like to tell you about a few of the ideas that I have for the future of our county.

Economic development needs to be expanded in the county. Light manufacturing would be an exciting opportunity. I believe this can be achieved with a reorganized and reinvigorated Economic Development Group.

Another strong draw for economic development would be a Port District for Kittitas County. I am a proponent of creating one.

Controlled growth is something I support. I do not believe we can, or should, stop growth. Change and growth are parts of life. However, we can work together to make it the best type of growth for our county.

I have, for a very long time, been involved in historic preservation. We need to take care of the wonderful pieces of history that we have been lucky enough to have inherited.

Preservation with growth is possible.

Preservation is a "green" concept. Reusing historic buildings is a great way to conserve resources. We could become a county that promotes a "green"” lifestyle through renovation and reuse. This could be a great tourism draw.

We need to embrace tourism as an economic driver. We have some very attractive assets in our county, one of which is the Yakima river.

A few years ago I was part of a group called the "Swiftwater Corridor Planning Commission." We were tasked with, and developed, a plan to provide restroom facilities along the Yakima River for floaters, fisherman and other folks just out to enjoy our river.

The plan was added to the Kittitas County Comprehensive Plan. But it has never been developed. If elected, I will work to get those facilities built to improve and respect our wonderful river attraction.

I will further define my platform over time.

Thank you for taking time to read this. Hopefully you have a similar vision for the future of the county and will consider voting for me in the future.

Nick
